Digital Photograph (Matte Print), 2023, 16 × 16 inches
I wanted this piece to be a statement - burning away the old to make room for the new. Once or twice a year, my parents and I go out into the yard, each with a piece of paper. On the paper, we write what we want to let go of and then in proper fashion, we burn these pages and watch the smoke fly under Grandmother Moon. History was written down to provide us with lesson for the future - but sometimes it's okay to let go of the history that has been, and make space for our stories now to thrive.
